Smile

Goal

A smile on the faces of the Amazonian people

We are looking to restore oral health, to develop fundamental eating skills, to enlist confidence among the people of the Amazon, and to reduce the chances of serious illnesses popping up as a result of inflammation.

a smile

Since 2017, dental care has become a part of the efforts that AMDAF has promoted in the Amazon Rainforest. Voluntary dentists have been working together with local teams to offer adequate, civilized and modern dental treatment to the Amazon’s indigenous communities throughout Brazil, where the complexity of dental care in several communities is being hampered due to how distant they are from the rest of the country’s people.

HISTORY

The Xingu Indigenous Park:
Where it all began

In 2017, the first study aimed at understanding the needs of Amazonian natives in relation to oral health was carried out in Alto do Xingu, Brazil. As a result, this demonstrated the existence of a demand for more complex dental care in this region, which gave way to the Sorria Xingu project. Since this project has kicked off, more than 50% of the Xingu population has already been taken care of in the area of dental concerns, with the project having additionally been extended to other indigenous lands.
